Favorite 2011 Young Adult Ministry

Re:define, a worship service at New Covenant Community Church in Somers Point that targets 20-30-year-olds, was voted favorite Young Adult Ministry in South Jersey for 2011.

Congratulations to them for winning and props to all of our nominees, which included CircuitBoard, Sojourn, The Rising and Quest Movement.

South Jersey Reader Favorites: Most Votes

Before we start announcing the winners of our 2011 Reader Favorites Poll, we’re going to start off by giving away a prize to the person who voted the most times in our poll this year.

Marriage Encounter | March 9-11

Marriage Encounter Weekend is March 9-11 at the Ramada Inn in Vineland. The registration fee is $75 per couple with an offering taken during the weekend.

The focus of the weekend is increasing communication skills; Marriage Encounter makes good marriages better.

Grounds For Good Coffeehouse | Feb. 3

Come celebrate Valentine’s Day a little early on Friday, Feb. 3, as we feature jazz group Standard Edition with vocals by 1st UMC’s very own Margie Morgan, with Paul Paulson on piano, Bill Jack on string bass, and Warren Frederick on drums!

Free coffee and tea, an exhibit of fabric arts and hot chocolate, cider and homemade baked goods for sale will round out this fun-filled evening.

Doors open at 7:30 p.m. and music will begin around 8. Free child care will be available from 8-9:30. Donations will benefit Kate’s Place.

Grounds For Good Coffeehouse is held monthly at First United Methodist Church in Moorestown.

4-Him Basketball Tournament | Feb. 18

Four Him

West District Basketball Tournament

 West District will be holding it’s annual four-person basketball tournament on Feb. 18.  The tournament will begin at 6 p.m. at West Park United Methodist Church,

625 Shiloh Pike, Bridgeton

Players must be 6th grade or older. The cost is $10.00 per. Teams are to wear similar color shirts. Teams will be comprised of four players and must be co-ed. At least one player must be a member of a West District basketball team. The tournament will be a round-robin format with winners of each bracket advancing to a single-elimination round. Games will be 6 minutes long and consist of four 90 second quarters. Each player must sit out one of the quarters per game and will foul out after 3 personal fouls and team will play with two players for remainder of fouled-out person’s time. Fouled team will inbound ball from baseline. Teams will be awarded 3 points for a win, 1 point for a tie during the round-robin portion. During single-elimination, extra periods will be played until there is a winner.
