West Park United Methodist Church invites the community to join their Pasta Bowl team at an all-you-can-eat dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 4.

The dinner will be held at the church, 625 Shiloh Pike, and proceeds will benefit the Harold Woodruff Memorial Scholarship College Book Fund.

Dinner includes unlimited pasta, meatballs, salad, Italian bread, beverage and dessert. Adult tickets are $8; tickets for children ages 3 to 12 are $5, and children under 3 eat for free.

Tickets are available until Tuesday, Jan. 31, from the West Park United Methodist Church office, Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. After office hours, tickets can be reserved and arrangements can be made for pick up by contacting Ken Blizzard at (856) 451-2948 or Sam Elwell at (856) 455-3628.

Marriage Encounter Weekend is March 9-11 at the Ramada Inn in Vineland. The registration fee is $75 per couple with an offering taken during the weekend.

The focus of the weekend is increasing communication skills; Marriage Encounter makes good marriages better.

West District Basketball Tournament

 West District will be holding it’s annual four-person basketball tournament on Feb. 18.  The tournament will begin at 6 p.m. at West Park United Methodist Church,

625 Shiloh Pike, Bridgeton

Players must be 6th grade or older. The cost is $10.00 per. Teams are to wear similar color shirts. Teams will be comprised of four players and must be co-ed. At least one player must be a member of a West District basketball team. The tournament will be a round-robin format with winners of each bracket advancing to a single-elimination round. Games will be 6 minutes long and consist of four 90 second quarters. Each player must sit out one of the quarters per game and will foul out after 3 personal fouls and team will play with two players for remainder of fouled-out person’s time. Fouled team will inbound ball from baseline. Teams will be awarded 3 points for a win, 1 point for a tie during the round-robin portion. During single-elimination, extra periods will be played until there is a winner.

The Annual Men’s Resurrection Breakfast in Vineland will be held on Saturday, March 31, from 8 to 10 a.m. at  the Vineland High School/South Gym.  This year’s guest speaker is former Philadelphia Eagles Linebacker, Jeremiah Trotter and 2006 Super Bowl Champion Barrett Brooks. Tickets are $15. The event is presented by the South Jersey Youth Alliance.

Joachima Kim Speer was leading worship in a small group with just a guitar when a call came for her to use her love and talent of music to make an impact beyond the four walls of the space where her small group met.

The call came from a worship leader at her church at the time – Chestnut Assembly of God in Vineland – when a family emergency sent him on a Sunday afternoon mission to find someone to fill in for him that night.

“I remember feeling overwhelmed and really scared because I never led with a band before – just me and my guitar for small groups,” Joachima recalled. “I faced the fear that day and stepped into my calling.”
